Interior Design’s Best of Year Awards (affectionately known as BOY), honor the industry’s most outstanding creations and acknowledge the work of architects, manufacturers and designers around the world. For this year’s 11th edition, GAN is a proud finalist for three products under three different categories: WAAN, for Flooring: Carpets/Rugs; GRAPY under Seating: Residential/Sofa; and MIX&MATCH, for Accessories.

With WAAN, a rug collection by Dienke Dekker, GAN is recognised within the category where it is best known. These rugs and cushions are produced on a hand loom using two different colour threads twisted together, with a surprising graphic grid result that is both hypnotic and visually enthralling.

GRAPY, created by Kensaku Oshiro, is a leap for GAN into a new product category. This easy chair was inspired by old jute sacks, and consists of three separate stuffed volumes stitched together to deliver ergonomic and contemporary-looking seating. The volumes are covered in fabric, either cotton or velvet, and joined together with reinforced seams that integrate the overall assembly.

For MIX&MATCH, artisan Flavia del Pra, has entirely reinterpreted the concept of traditional serving trays. Her collection of decorative ceramics, framed by copper plated aluminium, can be used as platters, pedestals or serving trays. With 9 different models to choose from, the idea behind MIX&MATCH is, as you’ve probably guessed, to have the user combine the designs to create a personal configuration.

The coveted Best of Year Bulb Award is given out every year by the North American publication Interior Design Magazine, as a way to highlight the greatest achievements within the design industry. Winners for the 11th edition will be announced live on December 1st at a festive ceremony in New York City.
